With MetaVerse being Tech’s newest trend and with the biggest tech CEOs talking about how the MetaVerse is the future of the internet, we did not hesitate to join in on this movement. The Metaverse Tunisian Summit is a 3-day conference that took place from the 25th to the 27th of November 2022, at DiarLemdina Hotel, Hammamet, Tunisia. It tackled emerging technologies namely: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, XR technologies, Blockchain, Gaming, and NFTs. The main goal of this event is to shine the line and concept of the MetaVerse Eco-system in Tunisia and Build a Strong community.

During this first-of-its-kind event, the participants had the opportunity to attend conferences and keynotes delivered by amazing national & international guest speakers, benefit from technical and non-technical workshops, and take part in a Startup Fair featuring exhibitions of Tunisian Startups leveraging metaverse technologies. Among the participants, 15 teams had the chance to participate in the MTS Hackathon in which they solved pressing problems related to Metaverse.

This summit was the perfect opportunity for students, engineers, gamers, and businesses, and startup owners to gather together, create and build a strong network.

IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems.
IEEE Computer Society SMU Student Branch Chapter is honored to host this event at SMU on October 21st starting 9pm. The SMU participating teams gathered for 24 hours+ enjoying coding and working in groups to solve the given problems.

The SMU and ISI Student Branches of IEEE celebrated IEEE Day on the 12th of October, 2022 at the South Mediterranean University.

We gathered, members of both student branches, to listen to our dear speaker, Ms. Feriel Saied, talk about her experience in IEEE and share different opportunities with us. We ended the celebrations with a networking buffet to further get to know each other.

Drone Talk Serie “Drone Talk 3: R&D in Drone Technology: The new Regulation” organized by the Tunisian e-governance society, IEEE SMU Robotics & Automation Society Chapter, Association Robotique ENSI, and supported by Fondation Friedrich Naumann pour la liberté – Tunisie .
The content of the talk focused on 3 panels:
– Advantages, disadvantages, types, and characteristics of drones.
– The experience, problems, and challenges encountered in the use of drones by researchers.
– Regulations regarding the use of drones for students and researchers.

Creathon 1.0 is a first of its kind Game Development 48-hour Hackathon where teams worked on ideating and implementing Video Games that serve a social purpose or that reflect on and represent the Tunisian culture.

It was an opportunity open to young creators and entrepreneurs, with the guidance of experts and mentors, to work in teams, ideate and imagine new concepts, connect with professionals and experts in video games development. Teams competed to earn interesting cash prizes, prizes offered by several incubation and coworking partners, and a possibility to secure a spot in the 14-week Makers Factory incubation cohort#2.

TECHACK is a sustainability hackathon, organized by the IEEE SMU CS Student Branch Chapter and the Microsoft Student Club SMU, and powered by INSOMEA and MICROSOFT.

For 24 hours, teams of student engineers gathered at SMU to brainstorm and implement project ideas revolving around Foodtech, Agritech, and Energy sustainability, all while leveraging Data Science tools.

Task-oriented line follower Bootcamp is our first checkpoint in our roadmap. Our members used the skills acquired throughout the previous workshops to build a line follower robot in 3 days.

Hacklexia is a competition dedicated to engineering and speech therapy students to help people suffering from dyslexia using technology: by generating technological ideas to help these people with their everyday lives. Therefore, Leo club Marsa Les Etoiles LME, in collaboration with IEEE SMU Student Branch Computer Society Chapter, organize this competition in which everyone can participate. The contest is simple and its goal is to improve technology for people who suffer from DYSLEXIA. The teams presented their ideas to a jury of experts. The competition took place on the 12th, 13th, and 14th of March 2022, at the South Mediterranean University (MSB-MedTech). For the first two days, teams gathered to attend conferences, workshops, and work in groups on their ideas. The third day was the pitching day, and the winning teams qualified for interesting cash prizes.

To celebrate the launch of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Chapter, we threw a small opening ceremony through which we were
able to share our roadmap and promote our vision of RAS within the IEEE SMU. An open panel was also held to discuss robotics and the robot revolution.
