IEEE SMU Student Branch, founded in 2021 at South Mediterranean University in Tunis, Tunisia, is dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity by developing both technical and non-technical skills among our members.
As part of the IEEE Tunisia Section with over 7,000 members, we provide a vibrant community of 100+ active members across six sub-units. Our branch creates opportunities for learning, networking, and professional growth in various engineering disciplines.

Key moments that shaped our branch
Branch Foundation
IEEE SMU Student Branch was officially established at South Mediterranean University, Tunis. Received Tunisia Section Outstanding Small Student Branch Award in our first year.
First Technical Chapters & Regional Recognition
Launched IEEE RAS and IEEE CS chapters in March. Received IEEE Region 8 Exemplary Student Branch Award, recognizing our exceptional activities and member engagement.
Expansion & Recognition
Launched IEEE WIE Affinity Group in May. Received IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award for the second consecutive year, solidifying our position as a leading branch in the region.
Major Expansion
Launched IEEE PES Chapter in May, followed by IEEE EMBS and IEEE IAS chapters in September. Completed our technical chapter portfolio with six specialized societies serving 100+ active members.
